Sprites over Europe 29 Aug - 1 Sep 2008
Last two weeks were quite successful for the EuroSprite team. Between 29 August and 1 September a number of sprites was observed above thunderstorm systems over: Iberia/Bay of Biscay (29/30 Aug - at least 10 sprites recorded from the observatory at Pic Du Midi), south-west France (30/31 Aug - at least 20 events caught from Pic Du Midi) and the Alps (31 Aug/1 Sept - at least 5 events from Corsica).
Moreover, some of these events were simultaneusly recorded by Oscar, running observations from his place in Spain, who was even more successful and captured 9 events on 29 Aug and 40 events on 30/31 August!
Look at these beautiful carrot sprites seen both from Pic du Midi (left) and Sant Vicenç de Castellet (right):
And this amazing jellyfish sprite with incredibly long tendrils! - unfortunately, the upper part of it was covered by clouds when observed from Pic du Midi:
Log on later to find out about the results from last week - more information soon.
